Abstract

The content of this thesis is largely based on radio and gamma-ray observations performed with the radiotelescopes at IAR and the satellites COS B and Compton.  The main aim of this research was to study the interaction of supernova remnants (SNRs) with their surrounding interstellar medium (ISM) in the regions of Upper-Sco and Ara. A variety of subjects are covered by this thesis, but there is a logical connection and all are, one way or another, related to the high energy emission components from the Milky way. Radiative process involved in this study are presented in Chapter 1. In Chapter 2 we report total-power observations at 1435 MHz of the Upper-Sco region. The spectral index distribution has been computed using available data from a previous 408 MHz all-sky survey. An extended spur-like structure dominated by non-thermal emission has been detected surrounding the region. The origin and nature of this region on the basis of a model of interaction between a shock front and a cloudy ISM are discussed. Chapter 3  presents the results of 1435 MHz and gamma-ray observations from the Ara region. Using data from the previous 408 MHz all-sky survey the spectral index distribution in the region was computed. After the subtraction of a background component, several interesting features can be observed at both frequencies. We pay particular attention to an extended non-thermal source which is coincident with a gamma-ray emission zone 10 degrees off the galactic plane. Several parameters are estimated for these structures and possible interpretations are briefly discussed. In Chapter 4, the main results of the thesis are summarized. .
